n the Waldviertel, the sign of a free and independent farmer has always been a door marked with 24 rays of the sun, the SONNENTOR (gate with sun rays). A warm, friendly symbol in a barren area that radiates strength and optimism. The symbol not only gives SONNENTOR its name, but is also the foundation for Johannes Gutmann's vision. Our Frei-Hof also transports this vision in working independently and growing organic plants free of chemicals.
THE WIldlife Garden of biodiversity
The heart of the SONNENTOR Frei-Hof is the Wildlife Garden of Biodiversity. It is a vivid experimental field inviting guests all year round to pick up lots of tips for their garden or balcony. Because even the smallest space can become a diverse habitat.
Our garden stands for biodiversity, allowing you to discover a wide variety of plants, organisms and habitats, learn about the cycles of nature and find out what permaculture is all about.
Our SONNENTOR farmers work in tune with the cycle of nature. What they apply on a large scale every day in the cultivation, care and harvesting of their herbs and spices, is implemented on a small scale at our Frei-Hof.
Despite the well-wrought permacultural concept, there is plenty of room for imperfection– this is what makes the Frei-Hof so appealing. But we are flawless in one point - the Frei-Hof is 100% organic permaculture.
